Rezi van Lankveld

Netherlands, 1972

Born in the Netherlands in 1972, Dutch painter Rezi Van Lankveld lives and works in Amsterdam.

Following in the footsteps of the hugely influential artist Luc Tuymans, Van Lankveld is a rising star in the art world. Winner of the prestigious Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam Prize and a hugely popular artist, Van Lankveld builds her paintings by pouring paint on to boards laid on the floor. Allowing the paint to lead her towards an image, she manipulates the forms using strong brushstrokes. Individuals, couples and groups appear, fused in ambiguous embraces and gatherings, intimated by limbs, bodies and heads. Van Lankveld’s classically beautiful paintings play with the Dutch tradition of interior space, intimacy and colour.
